Turkish club Galatasaray are reportedly making progress in their summer pursuit of Aston Villa winger Trezeguet.

This comes after it was recently published in a report from Turkish media outlet Sabah (via Sport Witness) that Galatasaray have a deal in place to sign the winger this summer if Villa were to be relegated from the Premier League this year.

Who scored Villa's goal in their 1-0 win against Stoke City on the opening day of the 2014/15 Premier League season?

The report also adds that Trezeguet himself is keen on leaving Villa and on joining the Turkish club in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Trezeguet joined the club in the 2019 summer transfer window from Turkish club Kasimpasa for a fee of £9m.

In his debut season for Villa, the 25-year-old, who is valued at £7.2 million (as per Transfermarkt), has made a total of 33 appearances for Dean Smith’s side across all competitions, in which he has only managed to score four goals and provide three assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

Despite earning plenty of game time for Villa this year, Trezeguet hasn’t really impressed. For example, his performances in his 26 Premier League appearances to date have resulted in the Egyptian being given a season rating of 6.55/10, making him Villa’s 15th-highest-rated player for this campaign (per WhoScored).

However, one highlight for Trezeguet this season saw him score the winning goal in Villa’s second-leg, semi-final clash against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup back in January, which secured their place in the final at Wembley Stadium.

TIF Thoughts…

Looking at how Trezeguet has performed in his Premier League appearances this year, as well as the small number of goals and assists he has managed to rack up for Villa this season, it would seem that he wouldn’t be much of a miss for the club should he leave this summer.
