West Bromwich Albion are preparing to pay Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon the full transfer fee for their on-loan star Matheus Pereira.

This comes after it was published in a recent report by Record (via Sport Witness) that West Brom will pay €9.5m (£8.6m) to secure Pereira on a permanent basis this summer.

The Brazilian, who is currently valued at £8.55 million according to Transfermarkt, signed to the Midlands club on a season-long loan deal in the previous summer transfer window from Sporting, with an obligation to buy on the condition that the winger makes 30 league starts – a milestone which he reached in Saturday’s draw with Birmingham City.

In total, Pereira has made 34 appearances for the Baggies in the Championship this season, in which he has managed to score six goals and provide 12 assists along the way.

The 24-year-old has been West Brom’s top performer this season with his performances in his 34 Championship appearances resulting in the Brazilian being awarded a season rating of 7.33/10 (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

Given how impressive Pereira has been for the Baggies since his arrival last year, it’s understandable why they would be willing to splash the cash to keep him at the club on a permanent basis.

With West Brom eyeing promotion to the Premier League this season, Pereira has been a big part of their success this season being up at the top of the Championship table with his goals and assists.

If West Brom do manage to secure their place back in the Premier League for next season, they would be hopeful that Pereira can continue to be a star performer for them going forward.
