Sport Witness recently published an article discussing Owls loanee David Bates and this report claims that the defender is “completely out of the picture at Hillsborough”, with the club uninterested in extending his loan deal beyond 1st July.

This report from Sport Witness cites Hamburger Mortenpost as the original source of this news regarding Bates and his future. This comes after the German outlet published a report describing Bates as a “flop” before stating that his season on loan with the Owls has gone “badly wrong”.

Back in March, just prior to the postponement of the professional game in England, Yorkshire Live reported that Bates was “unlikely to play for Sheffield Wednesday again”. This article shares some comments from Owls manager Garry Monk who stated that he didn’t anticipate that the 23-year-old defender would be involved for the Owls before the end of the season. Now, with his loan deal set to expire at the end of June, the latest reports don’t seem to provide a more positive outlook on Bates’ future at Hillsborough.

TIF Thoughts…

The 23-year-old has made four appearances for the Scottish national team thus far in his career, however, Bates has made just one appearance for the Owls in all competitions this term and furthermore, he failed to play a single minute of Championship football for the club during his loan spell.

Considering that he struggled for minutes during his time on loan with the Owls this term, it may not come as a surprise to many Wednesday fans that Bates’ future at the club doesn’t look incredibly promising at the moment.
