Sheffield Wednesday forward Fernando Forestieri could leave the club prior to the end of the Championship season, according to agent Lucas Cominelli of 7oro Sports Limited (via Sheffield Star).

Cominelli, an employee of the agency that represents the 30-year-old revealed the club have made no contact with the player in regards to extending his stay until the end of the 2019/20 season. He went on to say: “Fernando has been working hard, he’s ready, he’s available and wants to play if he’s selected. But there’s been no word from the club about anything beyond June 30th when his contract expires, so he will be free on July 1st after the first two games of the restart.”

We will look at Marcelo Bielsa to kick off this quiz on the Championship's managers, which of these national teams has the Leeds United boss managed?

The Owls signed Forestieri from Watford in August 2015 for a reported fee of £3.71m (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk) and since his arrival, the Italian attacker has played 134 times for the club.

He began his career in Argentina before moving to Europe and made the move to the United Kingdom initially on loan from Udinese back in August 2012 (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk). So far this season, Forestieri has started just 22% of the club’s Championship fixtures, contributing just two goals and two assists.

Are you surprised to learn the club are yet to extend his contract until the end of the season?

TIF Thoughts…

In our view, the news that Forestieri, who is valued at £653k (as per Transfermarkt), will be leaving Hillsborough comes as no surprise. However, we didn’t expect to see him leave the club prior to the conclusion of this current season. He’s made just 17 appearances in the league for Garry Monk’s side and unless there is an agreement put in place soon, his stay with the south Yorkshire-based club will come to an end after the fixture with Bristol City on June 28th.
