Nottingham Forest ‘have an interest’ in signing 24-year-old Cyprus international Nicholas Ioannou according to ‘24Sports‘, via Nottinghamshire Live

Nottinghamshire Live recently published a report sharing that the Reds are allegedly interested in bringing the former Manchester United academy prospect back to England from Cypriot club APOEL Nicosia, where he has been playing since July 2014.

Ioannou currently captains the Cypriot club and according to Nottinghamshire Live, the 24-year-old also captained a Manchester United youth team that included the likes of Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay during his time in Manchester.

We will look at Marcelo Bielsa to kick off this quiz on the Championship's managers, which of these national teams has the Leeds United boss managed?

This article states that the deal that would see Ioannou move to the City Ground would also see his APOEL teammate Musa Tamari move to Olympiacos, with Nottinghamshire Live explaining that Forest’s current owner Evangelos Marinakis is also the owner of the Greek club.

TIF Thoughts…

Current Reds defender and former England international Michael Dawson recently signed a one-year contract extension with Nottingham Forest, after his deal with the club had been set to expire this summer. However, at 36 years of age, it may be wise of the Reds to plan for life after Dawson and the 24-year-old Cypriot centre-back Ioannou could be seen as a potential long-term replacement for Dawson.

Would this be a good signing for Forest?

NO

The 36-year-old Reds defender has featured in just 14 of Forest’s 39 Championship games this term and as he isn’t getting any younger, it might be reasonable to conclude that he could feature in even fewer games for Forest moving forward.

With that in mind, it may be understandable if Forest do bring in a centre-back this summer to replace the 36-year-old as he enters the final year of his contract and if Nottinghamshire Live are right in saying that Ioannou, who is valued at £720k (as per Transfermarkt), could join the club as part of this deal that would also see Tamari move to Olympiacos, then this could be a move that would make sense for the Reds.
