The Athletic’s Phil Hay has been discussing Leeds United’s alleged interest in the Norwich City winger Emiliano Buendia. The 23-year-old has made 30 appearances in the Premier League this season and the Whites have recently been linked with the Argentine.

Speaking on a recent edition of the Talking Shutt Podcast, Hay was asked his thoughts on the matter, to which he responded: “[He’s] definitely someone they’re aware of, although I don’t think, at this stage, somebody that they’d be dead set on going for. [Leeds are] absolutely interested in him in the sense that they like him, and they like his ability and I do, too.”

Nice easy one to start. Who is this current Leeds man?

Buendia has provided his teammates with seven assists so far this season and has been Daniel Farke’s most consistent performer with an average performance rating of 7.21/10 (via WhoScored.com). Despite the former Getafe man impressing in a Norwich shirt this season, Hay believes the player and his current boss don’t share the best relationship.

He told the podcast: “Some of what has been said about him by Daniel Farke doesn’t make you think that their relationship is necessarily great or that things are all 100% rosy between them. He’s on a very long contract, is Buendia, and I don’t know where he would figure if Norwich go down.”

TIF Thoughts…

Hay’s comments highlight another reason, besides relegation, as to why the player may look to leave Carrow Road at the end of this season but that doesn’t necessarily mean Leeds United will move to land the £13.05m-rated player.

Having lost at Cardiff City last weekend in their first fixture back, we would expect the focus at Elland Road to be on ensuring their promotion back to the Premier League and any future transfer discussions can be parked for now.
