Kalvin Phillips has provided the Leeds United faithful with an update on his fitness and explained Marcelo Bielsa’s side know they are ready for the Championship restart. The 24-year-old missed the Whites’ last league fixture, which was the 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at Elland Road in the Yorkshire derby.

Ahead of the competition’s proposed restart which is scheduled for 20th June, Phillips says that he and his teammates are as fit as they were prior to the enforced stoppage (as per the Yorkshire Evening Post). He has also spoken about how the break, particularly the first week of it, gave him time to recover from a ‘sore knee’.

Nice easy one to start. Who is this current Leeds man?

The Leeds-born midfielder went on to say: “If anything I’m probably fitter and stronger than I was before the pandemic.”

Those comments will surely serve as a great encouragement to those supporters nervous about whether or not the Whites can replicate the form they showed prior to the lockdown.

TIF Thoughts…

Leeds United had won five out of their last five fixtures prior to the league’s suspension and as a result of their impressive form all season, they’re currently top of the division.

Do you think Kalvin Phillips is ready for the step up to the Premier League?

Phillips has impressed for the Yorkshire-based club; according to WhoScored.com, he is the squad’s second-most consistent performer with an average performance rating of 7.2/10.

In our view, Phillips has played an integral role in the team’s success so far and so the news that he is fit, feeling strong and ready to go comes as a huge boost to those hoping Marcelo Bielsa’s men will march on to promotion in the remaining nine fixtures.
