Former Leeds United player Noel Whelan has urged the club to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Juan Foyth as soon as possible (via Football Insider).

The former striker claimed that Foyth would be a ‘great signing’ and ‘he knows what the Premier League is all about’.

Foyth had recently been linked with a move to Elland Road and Whelan made clear of his belief that a move to Yorkshire is now heavily on the cards.

Here’s exactly what he had to say:

“It is really important we get him in early so he can have somewhat of a pre-season with the squad.

“[Marcelo] Bielsa had a good relationship with [Mauricio] Pochettino at Tottenham, as well as Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, so that deal was always on the cards.

“He never made it any secret that he was interested in that player, but he was needed at Tottenham during that spell. Now Pochettino has gone and [Jose] Mourinho has come in, he is not wanted.

“It would be a great signing. An Argentina international at a great age and he knows what the Premier League is all about. It would be a shrewd bit of business if they can get it done now.

“It would be one body in place for next season if we cannot lure Ben White back to Leeds.”

Argentinian newspaper Ole has recently suggested that a short-term deal which would see the player move to Elland Road on loan is close to going through (via Sports Mole). The report claims that the 22-year-old has agreed personal terms with the Whites and he looks set to spend the 2020/21 campaign in Yorkshire.

Nice easy one to start. Who is this current Leeds man?

Foyth has been limited to just four Premier League appearances for Spurs this season, with his last involvement coming in the 2-2 draw with Norwich City back in December (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk). He’s played just seven times in all competitions this season.

TIF Thoughts…

Foyth came to the United Kingdom back in August 2017 from Estudiantes in a deal reportedly worth £11.7m (via Transfermarkt.co.uk). The defender started the current season injured but since his return to fitness, he has for the most part been left out in the cold by the club’s management.

Marcelo Bielsa, a fellow Argentinian, may well be on the lookout for a central defender this summer with Leeds only having a ‘slim‘ chance of signing loanee Ben White on a permanent basis.

Gaetano Berardi is another player who could be leaving Elland Road this summer with his contract set to expire, further highlighting the need for Leeds to recruit in the central-defensive position.

Whelan certainly feels the Premier League defender would be a worthwhile addition and we agree.
