Leeds United will have to pay €21m (£18.8m) to German club RB Leipzig for striker Jean-Kevin Augustin this summer should they secure promotion to the Premier League.

This comes after it was reported by Sport Bild (via Sport Witness), who back up a claim from Kicker that Leeds have an obligation to buy the forward as part of his loan deal at the Championship club.

Nice easy one to start. Who is this current Leeds man?

The 23-year-old joined Leeds on a loan deal in the January transfer window.

Since then, Augustin has gone on to make just three appearances for Leeds in the Championship, with the forward making each of these appearances coming off the substitutes’ bench (per Transfermarkt).

These three appearances have resulted in Augustin playing just 48 minutes of action for Leeds without scoring a goal or assisting (per Transfermarkt).

Augustin’s short performances in those three appearances have resulted in the forward being given a season rating of 5.96/10, with only one Leeds first-team player posting a lower average rating this campaign (per WhoScored).

However, given the number of appearances Augustin has made for Leeds, it would seem harsh to judge him on these performances alone.

Would you want Augustin to sign to Leeds permanently this summer?

TIF Thoughts…

If Leeds do indeed win promotion to the Premier League this season and have to pay the reported fee to keep Augustin on a permanent basis, they would surely be hoping he can improve on the three performances he has given for Marcelo Bielsa’s side so far.

With Leeds set to resume their Championship season this weekend, they could use their remaining fixtures to get Augustin some minutes on the pitch and give him a better opportunity to show what he is capable of.
