Charlton Athletic-focused journalist Louis Mendez caught the attention of some Addicks fans recently after he posted a tweet discussing Joe Cala, who Mendez claims “certainly wants his name linked with Charlton”.

This post shares screenshots of three separate tweets from people mentioning that they’ve heard that Cala has made an offer to buy Charlton Athletic and Mendez claims that none of these users had previously mentioned the Addicks. The journalist also states that he himself had recently been asked to mention Cala’s name.

Mendez posted another tweet in response to this post in which he shares an article from the Sunderland Echo which explains that Cala has come “under scrutiny” in his role as a financial advisor at Gateshead.

Additionally, this article from the Sunderland Echo explains that he has also been unsuccessful in previous attempts to purchase both Portsmouth and Morecambe, whilst he also failed the National League’s ‘Fit and Proper Person’s Test’ in the past.

Some Charlton fans have flocked to Mendez’s original tweet about Cala and they don’t seem to be particularly happy about seeing him linked with the club, with some stating that they think he is looking for attention.

To kick off this quiz on 2019/20 Championship goalkeepers, can you name which goalkeeper has kept the highest number of clean sheets in the Championship this season?

Do you think that Joe Cala could actually buy Charlton Athletic?

NO WAY

NO WAY

YES, HE COULD

YES, HE COULD

Considering that he has been criticised for his performance in his role at Gateshead, in addition to the fact that he previously failed a ‘Fit and Proper Person’s Test’, it may be understandable why these Charlton fans don’t seem too excited to see Cala linked with their club.

Furthermore, considering that Mendez has claimed that the accounts that have been linking Cala to Charlton lately had never tweeted about the Addicks before, it may also be understandable why some Charlton supporters may be sceptical about the legitimacy of his interest in buying the club.
