AC Milan are said to be ready to step up their efforts to lure Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer to Italy, according to a recent report from Calcio Mercato.

The report claims that although negotiations are yet to take place, there has been some contact with the player’s entourage. It also goes on to say Ajer is ‘ready to leave Scotland’, but that the Rossoneri expect to face competition for the 22-year-old’s signature.

The Norwegian, currently valued at £2.43m according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, made 28 appearances for Neil Lennon’s side in the Scottish Premiership this season, starting 93% of their league fixtures – highlighting his importance to the side. So what have a sample of the club’s supporters made of the report?

It’s clear from the above responses that most of these supporters wouldn’t be against selling the player if the price was right. According to Calcio Mercato, the competition for his services involves Leicester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Real Madrid, which could spark a bidding war the Celtic fans would very much welcome. However, these Hoops fans are less than convinced the aforementioned clubs are keen on Ajer.

At the moment there is no concrete offer on the table for the player, but there appears to be some doubt as to whether the defender will be lining up for the Hoops next season.
