Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest contract news surrounding Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen.
Indeed, according to the Telegraph, via Tribal Football, Spurs have now resumed negotiations with Vertonghen with a view to extending his contract.
The tweet also added that the Belgian is out of contract in June with AC Milan, Inter and Ajax expressing interest but Spurs aren’t ready to give up on the defender yet.
This post from Sacks then gathered a lot of replies from Spurs fans who were eager to have their say on this latest development.
Here’s a sample of Spurs fans responding to the post:

It’s time to move on… we need a shakeup in our defense badly

Should Tottenham offer Vertonghen an extra year on his contract?
Yes
No
The Belgian has been at the club since 2012, since then, the 33-year-old has gone on to make a total of 311 appearances for the London club (per Transfermarkt). Now that it has been reported that the club are in talks to extend Vertonghen’s contract for another year, this news did not go down well with Spurs fans on Twitter.
No room for sentiment in football I’m afraid. Poch had to go as does Jan. Sad but true.

Only to be a squad player now. He’s been brilliant for us over his Spurs career but shouldn’t be starting anymore.

YEEEES! The man deserves at least 1-2 years, he has to lift some sort of trophy before he leaves.

Really not sure about this. If I thought we’d have funds available, it’s a definite no. But now, it will obviously be incredibly difficult to sign anyone, let alone a CB of his ability, I do see why we’d do it. But if we could sign a top CB this summer, I’d let Vertonghen leave.

Great news – still a class defender – he’s got another year or 2 in him

What do we think?
It appears that not all of these Spurs fans are crazy about the idea of Vertonghen staying on at the club for another year.
