Spurs fans have been reacting to the reported news that Jan Vertonghen is set to leave the North London club on a free transfer due to a dispute over a contract extension.
According to the Daily Star (via Ricky Sacks), Spurs are unwilling to meet the 33-year-old’s contract demands and he will leave the Lilywhites this summer when his current deal expires. The piece from the Daily Star cites a report from ESPN, which suggests that Tottenham will not agree to extend his deal by two years unless he takes a substantial pay cut on his current £70,000-a-week wages.
Spurs signed the centre-back from Ajax in 2012 and in nearly eight years with the club, he has gone on to make 311 appearances for the Lilywhites; contributing 14 goals and seven assists (per Transfermarkt). However, it seems as if fans will not get the chance to properly say goodbye to the Belgian if he does indeed leave in June, with the Premier League set to resume behind closed doors.
Would you offer Vertonghen the wages he reportedly wants?
Yes

Spurs legend, great player but sadly his legs are gone. Would make more sense for Jan to get his 2 years in a slower paced league

A great shame as Jan will be hard to replace even as a back up defender

These Spurs fans certainly seem upset with the latest reported update on Vertonghen.
What do we think?
It looks more and more likely that Vertonghen will leave Spurs this summer, although his solid average rating of 6.85 from the Premier League this season suggests that it may be worthwhile keeping him as a backup at least.
