Spurs fans on Twitter have been reacting to the latest transfer rumour linking them with a move for Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic.

According to Todofichajes (via TranSPURS), Jose Mourinho has identified the Manchester City man as his top defensive target in the summer transfer window. The report also suggests that Savic is keen to move to the Premier League and Spurs are willing to pay a “good sum” for the player, with Atletico demanding at least €15m (£13.5 million).

How well do you remember Heung-Min Son's time with Spurs? - The Lilywhites signed Son from which Bundesliga side?

So far this season, the 29-year-old has struggled somewhat in his appearances in La Liga, averaging a 6.76 rating for his performances in the Spanish top-flight (per WhoScored). However, his appearances in the Champions League for Diego Simeone’s side have been much more assured, with the Montenegrin averaging a 7.11 rating in that competition (per WhoScored).

Would Savic be a good signing for Spurs?

Reaction from Spurs fans to the reported interest in Savic can be seen in the tweets below.

Others recalled his spell with Manchester City, who he left in 2012 to join Fiorentina, with fans suggesting that he wouldn’t be the best signing for the Lilywhites this summer.

Spurs are arguably in need of a centre-back, with Jan Vertonghen looking likely to leave this summer when his contract expires. However, with Japhet Tanganga having emerged as a viable option for Jose Mourinho, and Eric Dier reportedly also set to feature more regularly as a defender, perhaps they don’t need to target someone like Savic this summer.

It seems as if there is a split of opinion amongst Spurs fans on whether or not Savic would be a good signing for the North London club this summer.

Considering they have kept just four clean sheets in the Premier League this season, there is an argument that defensive reinforcements are necessary ahead of next season and with Savic seemingly available for a fairly low fee, perhaps Mourinho would be right to bring him in.
