Some Southampton fans have been talking about the latest news update involving their midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The Danish midfielder was recently talking to Sport1 (via the Evening Standard) in an interview. In that interview, he talked about his wishes to win the Premier League and the Champions League. He also said that he wants to play at the ‘next level’ of the game.
A Saints-related page called SaintsNews&Views relayed these quotes on Twitter. This left many Southampton fans talking. They made their negative opinion about the situation very clear.
Bye bye so long

Is Hojbjerg good enough for a top six club?
No chance
I think so
Good bye then ! ?

Guess he could be unemployed soon

I mean I’m sure all footballers have that ambition. He isn’t good enough however

I get that he’s ambitious and rightly so, however, I don’t think he’s better than Saints. Mid table is probably his level imo. Don’t get me wrong though, decent player for Saints and great attitude.

Daily Echo journalist Dan Sheldon also relayed this information on Twitter. There was negative reaction about Hojbjerg on his tweet too.
If we get big money for him, get rid! He’s not as good as he thinks he is.

I just don’t get this. I don’t rate him, he’s just not that good a footballer and very mistake prone imo. Comments seem to all agree. We get a good price then happily offload ?

This season, Hojbjerg has been a regular in midfield for the Saints by making 33 appearances in all competitions so far. He has not scored a goal, but he does have one assist to his name. He has also captained the side on multiple occasions this season (via Transfermarkt).
What do we think?
The midfielder’s comments come some months after he was linked with a move to Tottenham. His current deal at the club runs out in the summer of 2021 and because of this, Southampton are at the risk of losing him for a lesser fee than if his contract was longer. To make sure that they don’t lose him on a free transfer, parting ways this summer might be a good idea.
