Some Southampton fans have been talking about Jordy Clasie after a post involving the Dutchman caught their attention.
A Saints fan quote-tweeted a video that the club’s official Twitter account. The video had Jay Rodriguez scoring a goal and Clasie was involved in the build-up. The Saints fan argued that Clasie was ‘never a bad player’.
On seeing this tweet about their former Dutch player, many Saints fans flocked to it. Some of them agreed with the point about Clasie.
Not a bad player just a bit pointless. For me he just blocked the path of Harrison Reed.

Would you have Clasie back at Southampton now?
Absolutely
Too late now
Agreed. Just feel he didn’t suit the system..

Not bad but not good enough for the premier league.

He was a fantastic midfielder, would have fit Ralph’s system perfectly after Davis left but we’ll never know ?????

He was never bad. But to be a small defensive midfielder you need to be exceptional to succeed… Like Kante.

Agree. The system didn’t suit his game after Koeman left. TBH

Totally agree with that, tidy player who never really fit into the system post Koeman

Clasie arrived at Southampton in the summer of 2015 after joining the club from Feyenoord. After two seasons at St. Mary’s, he was loaned out to Club Brugge and also spent a loan spell back at Feyenoord, before joining AZ in July (via Transfermarkt).
What do we think?
In the two years that he spent on the south coast, Clasie picked up WhoScored ratings of 6.71 and 6.40 for the 2015/16 and 2016/17 league campaigns respectively. Given that isn’t overly impressive, it suggests he probably wasn’t good enough for the Premier League nor Southampton.
