A lot of Newcastle United fans have responded to a tweet from the Chronicle that includes a piece with quotes from Paul Merson.
Merson, originally speaking in the Daily Star, claimed that the Toon would be making a ‘big mistake’ if they were to get rid of Steve Bruce and replace him with Mauricio Pochettino.
The former Arsenal man said that he rates Bruce ‘highly’ and that he is not sure Pochettino is the right man for the Toon.
The reason for this, according to Merson, is because the way the Toon currently play is so different from the way Pochettino likes his teams to play.
If the takeover happens would you have Pochettino over Bruce?
Yes
No
It is fair to say that these comments have not gone down well with many Newcastle fans.

Who’s bothered about what Paul merson says can he not just get on with his own job

Merson was begging Arsenal to sign Pochettino when Spurs sacked him, so for him to now double back and say Bruce would be the better choice for us is laughable, for so many reason. Why don’t we go for Carver altogether, he’s about our level in his eyes.

What a melon . . . and a pointless story to run for about the fourth time!!

My immediate though was why would anyone care what Paul Merson thinks…

What do we think?
Sky Sports linked the Argentine with the Toon job if the proposed takeover goes through, and Merson has said in the past that he would love Arsenal to appoint him.
So, to us, this just seems like Merson is trying to put Pochettino off so that Arsenal might one day appoint him.
Bruce has done a good job with the Toon as he has them in 13th place, but Pochettino transformed Tottenham Hotspur, and if they were taken over, then Newcastle could do a lot worse than appoint the Argentine.
