Sky Sports’ North-East football reporter Keith Downie recently caught the attention of plenty of Newcastle United supporters after he responded to a post from @NUFC360 discussing recent reports about Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain.
@NUFC360 posted a tweet sharing some alleged news recently reported by The Daily Express, which claimed that the Toon are prepared to offer the Argentinian striker “a second chance in the Premier League”. Higuain was previously on loan at Chelsea from January until the end of June in 2019.
Downie responded to @NUFC360’s post sharing this news to play down Newcastle’s interest in the player. Instead, stating that he feels that Higuain’s agent is behind this alleged news – as the Juventus man may be looking to move to the club because he “expects them to be very wealthy soon”.
Some Magpies fans have been responding to Downie’s tweet by stating that they don’t want to see Higuain at St. James’ Park. Read the reactions of some Toon fans to this post in the tweets below.

AKA. Gonzalo Higuain’s agent wants Newcastle to know his client wants a move to SJP as he expects them to be very wealthy soon.

Player in the twilight of his career wants one final big pay day before retirement. Shocked…shocked I tell you.

Why would we want a 32 year old striker past his peak eating up probably around 300k a week, that goes to Cavani aswell
— Luke Oversby (@LukeOverz) May 24, 2020
Id rather keep Joelinton

LOL!!! Agents will be so excited at the prospect of this takeover, I hope the new owners have more of a clue than just doing big stupid money signings

No thanks. Overweight mercenary. Would prefer Dembele from Lyon. Or even Cavani for a year or 2

These agents clearly pushing for a final payday for twilight players like Higuain. For me, alarm bells ring immediately about whether or not he would give the effort and commitment that #nufc fans expect to see on the pitch #NUFCTakeover

What do we think?
As per the Daily Mail, should the proposed Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle United go through, their owners would become the richest in the Premier League. With that in mind, it may not come as a surprise that players like Higuain may be eyeing up a move to the club, as Downie suggests in his tweet.
However, considering that he will be 33 in December, it may be understandable why these Toon fans seem reluctant to get excited about this transfer, with some indicating that they would prefer to target a younger prospect.
