To kick things off, who is this man from the 2009/10 season?

Winter believes that the new owners, if allowed to take over Newcastle United, should aim to keep the region’s local talent in the North East and develop them at Newcastle rather than let them leave.

The Times reporter mentions Alan Shearer going to Southampton and Michael Carrick to West Ham United as just two examples of players who have left the North East to seek careers in football.

This has attracted the attention of many Toon fans who agree.

What do we think?

This is a brilliant piece from Winter, and he makes some good points about what Newcastle United means to the city and why bringing through local talent is so important.

In terms of the takeover itself, it is claimed that the Premier League have approved the deal, and the official announcement of the acquisition will be made on the 1st of June.

It will be interesting to see if that happens, and then if it does, to see if the prospective new owners follow Winter’s advice.
