A lot of Newcastle United fans have responded to a tweet from George Caulkin about #cans.
Chris Waugh put a tweet out asking Toon fans what #cans means to them why is it important and how will they be celebrating during lockdown.
This caused his fellow Athletic reporter to respond with a beautifully worded post about what #cans means to him and many Toon fans.
Caulkin said that ‘#cans is an expression of who we are. It is Saturday night after St. James’ Park. It is relief and jubilation. It is the end of something – a party 13 years in the making.’
Do these words move you?
Yes, beautiful stuff
No, not a fan
This lovely post has attracted the attention of many Toon fans who love this from Caulkin.
#Cans is an expression of who we are. It is Saturday night after St James’ Park. It is being lost in drink, a soft hiss of depressurisation. It is relief & jubilation. It is toasting our friends, family, heroes, club. It is the end of something – a party 13 years in the making.

Very well put George. You’ve totally captured the meaning. Maybe now the rest of the country will “get it”

What do we think?
This post from Caulkin is lovely, and it clearly sums up how many Toon fans are feeling about this proposed takeover.
It could represent new hope for Newcastle, and Mike Ashley can be forgotten about.
Caulkin also said recently that the Premier League would approve the takeover ‘very soon’ so Toon fans might not have long to wait for those #cans.
