A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a tweet from NUFC 360, which includes a screenshot of an article produced by Jonathan Liew on the proposed takeover of the Toon.
The bit that has particularly angered many Toon fans is Liew claiming that Toon fans only dislike Mike Ashley because of his failure to spend money on transfers.
This totally ignores things like the way he treated Kevin Keegan and renamed St. James’ Park as the Sports Direct Arena.
However, Liew then claims that the Toon, as a fanbase, have ‘shown their hand’ in this takeover saga because of the criticism aimed at Hatice Cengiz by a few Toon fans.
This has infuriated these Toon fans who have not held back in their assessment of this piece.
Has this piece from Liew annoyed you?
Yes, it is a disgrace
No, I am not bothered
I’ve only got one thing to say about this report. Disgusting.

Personally offended by Jonathan’s remark on #nufc supporters, as a long-standing @guardian reader I’d like to make complaint, who does he think he is?! I think Jonathan should actually do some research on #nufc and newcastle/north east before he attacks its fan base

It’s staggering that such an ill-researched and offensive article can end up in print.

Embarrassing.

Astonishingly outrageous, sweeping generalisation

What a despicable slur and awful generalisation of the feelings of most #nufc supporters towards Mike Ashley and the proposed sale of the club to PIF. You should be utterly ashamed and embarrassed at having written and published this @jonathanliew

That’s disgraceful

Delaney 2.0

Wow. I’m rarely lost for words but that is shocking journalism.

What do we think?
Cengiz is the fiancée of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and Mohammed Bin Salman is thought to have been involved.
He is the leader of PIF – the company that intends to take an 80% stake in Newcastle in this proposed takeover.
So, she can be against the takeover, but as many Toon fans have pointed out, what can they do about it?
This is why many Toon fans are fuming with Liew because it appears to them like he has done no research and has just decided to attack them on the Cengiz issue.
