A group of Liverpool supporters have been discussing a recent report from German outlet Sport Bild (as cited by Transfermarkt.co.uk) regarding their pursuit of the RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner. The report claims that the Reds are unwilling to meet the €55m (£48m) release clause and are hoping to negotiate on the asking price.
However, the Bundesliga club’s CEO, Oliver Mintzlaff, insists “it won’t get any cheaper” and went on to say: “We will not sell a player below value if he is under contract for more than a year.”
Werner scored a hat-trick for his current employers at the weekend during their demolition of Mainz at the Coface Arena, taking his total number of goals this season to an impressive 30 (via Transfermarkt.co.uk). Here is how a sample of the Anfield faithful have responded to the update.
Just pay whatever he costs and get him before a rival swoops in under our noses.
We’ll look like embarrassed amateurs if that happens.

Another transfer drama and if true another example of LFC dragging their feet…just pay the release clause…not every transfer has to be a bargain…look how Alisson and VVD have transformed us…just pay the price before relations sour with Werner/agent/RBL

They can’t want him that bad if they don’t think that he is worth £48m! I bet that every other club who is interested in him would be willing to pay his release clause.

Will Liverpool land Timo Werner this summer?
Yes
No
Let’s do it the arsenal way and pay them in installments. I’m sure we can afford to pay 50 mil in 3 yrs ??

What do we think?
It’s clear from the above responses that many of these Liverpool fans fear their club may miss out on the 24-year-old due to their unwillingness to meet the player’s release clause. Werner’s goal record this season speaks for itself but given the attacking talent Jurgen Klopp already has at his disposal and potential financial concerns surrounding the global pandemic, it is unclear whether or not the Premier League leaders and RB Leipzig will come to some sort of an agreement.
