Aston Villa fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest comments made by Villa goalkeeper Matija Sarkic.
This comes after Villa fan Twitter account @villareport shared a post on their page relaying comments made by Sarkic in a recent interview with Montenegrin outlet Vijesti, as cited by the Birmingham Mail.
Sarkic revealed that it was “great” in Livingston where he spent the first half of the 2019/20 season on loan before being called back by the club in January (per Transfermarkt).
The 22-year-old also revealed that he thinks there “will be little space for a real chance in Aston Villa in the future” and that he plans to leave the club despite their “desire” to extend his contract at Villa Park.
This post then gathered a lot of replies from Villa fans who were quick to share their thoughts on the matter.
Here’s a sample of Villa fans responding to the post:
Matija Šarki?: “It was great in Livingston. The club (Villa), however, soon brought in the famous and experienced Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina, so there was no room for me. [vijesti] #avfc

He was doing well up in Scotland I have no clue why we recalled him especially if we were going to sign Pepe Reina ????

Really missing a trick if we let him go, Could easily be Heatons replacement, should give him the reassurances he needs in his contract to keep him in my opinion

Really rate this guy, hope he can be our no1 at some point

Do you feel sorry for Matija Sarkic?
Yes
No
Since his arrival at Villa Park back in 2015, the ‘keeper has gone on to make 54 appearances for the Villa U23’s but has yet to make his debut for the senior team (per Transfermarkt).
It’s been a problem with the club for awhile, not having the pathways in place for young players to get a crack at the first team. We need to be send these kids out to a European league which is one or two steps down from PL and they can get a couple of seasons of experience.

Simple solution offer him a 5year contract and send him on loan somewhere is guaranteed to play for next 2seasons.. Even include bonuses into contract

He sounds slightly bitter that we called him back to only bring in Reina, understandably so

What do we think?
Given how Villa currently have Tom Heaton, Orjan Nyland, Pepe Reina and Jed Steer in their squad, it’s understandable why Sarkic may not feel he has the best opportunity to get some first-team action at the club.
