Aston Villa fans on Twitter have been reflecting on former Villa striker Luc Nilis.
This comes after the official Villa Twitter account shared a post on their page that contained video footage of a goal Nilis scored on his Premier League debut back in 2000 against Chelsea.
This tweet was posted to celebrate the Belgian’s 53rd birthday.
This post then gathered a lot of replies from Villa fans who were quick to share their thoughts on the former striker.
Here’s a sample of Villa fans responding to the post:
Happy birthday to our former striker, Luc Nilis! ?#AVFC pic.twitter.com/4XNVCfvNk3

The most underrated goal ever scored at villa park.
Technically sensational

He would have been class for us.

From the little we saw of him, we knew we signed a fantastic player, unfortunately it only lasted a little time

Could Luc Nilis have been a Villa legend if he didn't get injured?
Yes, he had the potential
No, probably not
Unfortunately for Nilis, he made just three Premier League appearances for the club with the last of those appearances lasting just four minutes before he sustained a double fracture of his right leg following a collision with Ipswich ‘keeper Richard Wright (per Birmingham Mail). Now that the club have posted this footage of Nilis’ goal against Chelsea to celebrate his recent birthday, this post led to a lot of Villa fans sharing their thoughts on the former Villa man.
Shocking injury cut his career short. Had massive potential with us.

What do we think?
It’s nice to see the club celebrating Nilis’ birthday when he didn’t make that many appearances for Villa. The response to this post from this bunch of Villa fans proves how impressed with Nilis they were before his horrific injury.
