Aston Villa fans have been tasked with rating Tyrone Mings’ season after the question was posed by @AVFC_News on Twitter. The centre-back signed for the Birmingham-based club from Bournemouth last summer in a deal reportedly worth £20.07m (via Transfermarkt.co.uk).
Mings had already spent the second half of the 2018/19 season on loan at Villa Park and so Dean Smith knew all about the player he was getting when the club shelled out the significant transfer fee.
In response to the post, here is how some of the fans have responded in regards to the 27-year-old.
6. His casual nature on the ball cost us too many goals

7.5/8 massive leader and presence but can’t say he’s been holding the defence together. Also making too many mistakes

6. I think he would admit he’s made more mistakes than he expects from himself. Still a leader on and off the pitch though. UTV

5 sadly been found out too many times at this level
— Lenny Owen (@lennylion74) April 29, 2020
A very generous 4.

Is Tyrone Mings worth the £20m the club paid for his services?
Yes
No
7 – he looks better in a back 3 but needs to concentrate the whole game. Love his Ferdinand-esque marauding runs out from the back too

5 just about

What do we think?
The general consensus appears to be that the defender makes too many mistakes. Mings has made 23 appearances in the Premier League this season and has managed to get himself on the scoresheet twice – in fixtures versus Manchester United and Watford (via Transfermarkt.co.uk).
His average performance rating in the English top flight currently stands at 6.63/10 according to WhoScored.com, which you could argue is somewhat underwhelming. Therefore, we can understand why most of these supporters were reluctant to give him a high rating.
