Aston Villa fans on Twitter have been discussing on-loan Villa defender James Chester.
This comes after Villa fan Twitter account @Total_Villa shared a post on their page claiming that Chester is Villa’s “next best centre-back after Mings and shouldn’t be out on loan or have an expiring contract.”
This post then gathered a lot of replies from Villa fans who were quick to share their thoughts on the matter.
Here’s a sample of Villa fans responding to the post:
Stoke City have played 7 Championship games since James Chester joined on loan.
Chester has started 6 of them.
It’s just my opinion but if he is this fit, I think he’s our next best centre back after Mings and shouldn’t be out on loan or have an expiring contract ???? ??????? #avfc pic.twitter.com/aYMMroTVwU

Completely agree

Why not . Every other CB has had a chance . A fit Chester is the best CB at the club imo

Him and Mings at the back would steady it out perfectly imo

Did Villa make a mistake in allowing Chester to leave on loan?
Yes, they should have kept him
No, we don't miss him
The Welshman is currently on a loan deal at Championship side Stoke City where he has played the full 90 minutes in six out of a possible seven Championship matches (per Transfermarkt). Now that it has been suggested that Chester should have stayed at Villa instead of leaving on loan, this opened the door for lots of Villa fans to share their thoughts on the defender.
I think he is a solid centre half.

We’ll need him next season

Sure he’s not the quickest but he can’t be much different than Engels. What he is, is a no nonsense defender who will head the ball clear and/or thump it long and there’s nothing wrong with that. What he doesn’t want to do is play out from the back and that doesn’t suit Deano.

What do we think?
The fact that so many Villa fans think the club made a mistake in letting Chester leave on loan earlier in the season just goes to show how highly they rate the 31-year-old.
