In a recent Q&A on The Athletic, Phil Hay answered several questions from Leeds fans, including whether or not he believed that the club will be bought by Qatari Sports Investment (QSI).

There have been several stories published regarding QSI’s interest in Leeds United, including an article published in The Times back in 2019, in which the current Leeds owner, Andrea Radrizzani, stated that the Qatari investment could potentially ‘get Leeds up to the level of Manchester City.’

However, nothing substantial has happened regarding QSI’s potential takeover of Leeds since, and, as such, one Leeds fan took the opportunity to ask what Phil Hay thinks about the matter, to which Hay replied:

“The rumours continue to float around but whenever I speak to anyone on either side (Leeds or QSI), it sounds nowhere near being close. But, given how well Radrizzani and Al-Khelaifi know each other, (and the way in which both of them keep giving this story legs) it would be no surprise if something happened at some stage.”

As such, it would appear, according to Hay, at least, to be true that there has been no progression of QSI’s interest in the club.

However, with the club currently occupying first place in the Championship table, it could be argued that, should Leeds go on to secure promotion to the Premier League, they would become a much more attractive investment opportunity than they are at present.

Although, this is purely speculation. As things stand, fans of the club will simply have to wait and see whether or not QSI follow up in their reported interest in the club with an offer.
