Sheffield Wednesday-focused journalist Dom Howson has caught the attention of some Owls fans via a tweet which shares a link to an article of his that was recently published by Yorkshire Live discussing some “transfer targets that slipped Sheffield Wednesday’s net”.

This article lists 11 names that Wednesday allegedly targeted in the transfer market at some point “in the last five years”, however, all of these players ultimately “slipped through the net”, as explained by Howson, resulting in the club looking elsewhere.

Some Wednesday fans have been responding negatively to this tweet, expressing some degree of regret at the fact that their club missed out on signing these alleged former transfer targets. Read the reactions of some Owls supporters to Howson’s recent post in the tweets below.

To kick off our quiz on the inaugural 2004/05 EFL Championship campaign, who managed Sunderland to a first-place finish in the 2004/05 Championship season?

What do we think?

In addition to listing these 11 players who “slipped Sheffield Wednesday’s net” in recent years, this Yorkshire Live article also claims that the Owls “will be actively looking to reshape their squad” in the next transfer window.

Upon taking over the club, Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri declared that he wanted the club “to gain promotion to the Premier League within two years”, as explained in a BBC Sport article from March 2015

It is now over five years since Chansiri completed his takeover of Wednesday in January 2015, and they currently sit in 15th place on the Championship table, eight points behind sixth-placed Preston North End.

Considering that he had openly been targeting promotion to the Premier League upon completing his takeover of the club back in 2015, it may be fair to say that Chansiri might not be particularly pleased to see the Owls currently sitting in the bottom half of England’s second tier. As a result, it might be understandable why the Owls may be expected to “reshape their squad” in the next transfer window.

However, it may also be understandable why some Wednesday supporters are sharing some regret regarding the club’s failure to sign the players who were listed in this recent Yorkshire Live article. Had the Owls signed them when they had the chance, it may be fair to say that they may not feel the need to completely “reshape their squad” in order to try and compete for promotion to the Premier League.
