Adam Pope of the BBC recently conducted an interview with the former Leeds United defender Rui Marques in which they discussed the player’s time at Elland Road. The broadcaster shared a link to the chat via his Twitter account encouraging those who follow the club to tune in.
Marques, now an agent in Portugal spoke fondly of his time with the Whites, his pride at representing Angola, and interestingly still uses the term “we” when referring to the club (as per Adam Pope). Here is how some of the fans have responded to the interview on the social media platform.
Always wondered what happened to Rui. He seemed to drop off the face of the earth when we released him! One of my favourite players in a dark period for the club.

Remember him being very good for a decent spell, was our best player if I remember rightly but we was at a poor level at the time.

He was a colossus then went to the AFCON and was never the same after that

What do we think?
Rui Marques signed for the Whites in July 2005 from the Portuguese club CS Maritimo on a free transfer according to Transfermarkt.co.uk. He made 95 appearances for the Yorkshire-based club, contributing four goals and one assist despite being a centre-back by trade.
The former defender spoke of his pride at representing Angola for whom he made appearances at the African Cup of Nations and the World Cup. It’s clear from the above responses that the fans still hold the now 42-year-old in high-regard.
