Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have been discussing the latest transfer update about the club looking for a defensive midfielder.
Alasdair Gold recently relayed an update on the club’s transfer strategy for the summer and outlined a number of potential targets for a new defensive midfielder. He went on to list Geoffrey Kondogbia, Denis Zakaria, Eduardo Camavinga, Boubakary Soumare, Nemanja Matic, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure as possible options for Spurs.
Spurs-related page TranSpurs posted this information on Twitter. Many Spurs fans discussed Gold’s report and delivered their own verdicts.

Which of the following defensive midfielders should Spurs sign?
Zakaria
Camavinga
Soumare
Kondogbia
It might be Soumare, cos Newcastle had bid for him 45m +10m add ons in the January window. Lille accepted it but Soumare didnt want to join them. I guess due to Sacramento’s Lille connection we might be able to get him on board this summer??

I’d love to see Zakaria at the club! he’s young and has all the physical qualities to be a beast covering the back line

never seen Camavinga or Soumare but have heard good things, I’d 100% take Hojbjerg from Southampton

Youngster Camavinga has been a regular at Rennes at the tender age of 17, making 25 Ligue 1 appearances for the club. He has an impressive tally of 4.2 tackles per game too, racking up an average WhoScored rating of 7.12.
As for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Zakaria, the former Young Boys midfielder has made 23 Bundesliga appearances while picking up a WhoScored rating of 7.15 in the league.
21-year-old Soumare has picked up a Ligue 1 Whoscored rating of only 6.35, winning one tackle per game for Lille.
Valencia’s Kondogbia has made 17 La Liga appearances for the Mestalla-based side and has a WhoScored rating of 6.76.
Premier League options in Matic, Hojbjerg and Doucoure have ratings of 7.06, 6.82 and 6.78 respectively.
What do we think?
The ratings for this season suggest that Camavinga and Zakaria are arguably more reliable defensive-midfield options for Spurs. Zakaria has been linked with Manchester United by Sky Sports Germany (via Daily Star) and Camavinga has drawn links with Barcelona (via Sport). So despite their impressive stats, they may face stiff competition if they look to pursue those targets.
