Spurs fans have been reacting to the news that West Ham centre-back Issa Diop has reportedly requested a transfer away from the Hammers this summer.

According to TEAMtalk (via Ricky Sacks), the French defender has told the board at West Ham that he wants to leave, with Spurs now leading the way for his signature. David Moyes’ side are hovering above the relegation spots in the Premier League and it seems as if the former Toulouse man is keen to progress his career elsewhere.

Would Diop be a good signing for Spurs?

So far this season, the 23-year-old defender has averaged a disappointing 6.70 rating for his performances in the Premier League, despite contributing three goals in the top flight. He is currently valued at £31.5 million by transfermarkt, suggesting that it would be an expensive transfer for the Lilywhites, but with Jan Vertonghen looking likely to leave this summer when his contract expires, perhaps he could be the Belgian’s long-term replacement.

Reaction from Spurs fans to the news on Diop can be seen in the tweets below.

These Spurs fans clearly believe that Diop would be a great signing, although some doubt whether Daniel Levy would provide the funds necessary to bring him to the North London club.

What do we think?

Jose Mourinho once described Diop as a ‘monster’ during his time as Manchester United manager, so he is clearly a fan of the centre-back. It will be interesting to see whether the Lilywhites do make a move for him this summer and the sort of price that West Ham would demand.
