Spurs fans have been discussing some footage of Jan Vertonghen’s disallowed goal against Sunderland in 2015.
Christian Eriksen had already given the Lilywhites a late lead to make it 2-1, but the Belgian defender thought he had sealed things when he raced through on goal and passed the ball into an empty net. However, he was ruled offside despite receiving the ball in his own half, a decision which seems to still be on the mind of a lot of Spurs fans after it was shared on Twitter by The Spurs Web.
Fortunately for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, they would hold on to the three points, despite the refereeing mistake, and move up to fifth in the Premier League table in the process.
Is there any doubt that Jan Vertonghen's goal should have stood?

I remember that! Was so angry for him! Most stupidly obviously incorrect thing I’ve ever seen I’m still not over it!

This as it’s not even close to offside

I don’t understand this offside at all. There’s even a defender below him?

This still makes me rage

Was at this game. Was going mad.
No one could understand why it was given offside— Stuart napper (@StuNapper) April 6, 2020
These Spurs fans still seem baffled by the decision to rule that goal out for offside.
What do we think?
It was a terrible decision but fortunately for the North London club, it didn’t cost them the three points. Vertonghen officially has 14 goals for the Lilywhites, but perhaps the defender believes he is on 15, as that ‘goal’ against Sunderland certainly should have stood.
