In his latest article for Football.london, Alasdair Gold has been discussing some of the youngsters at Spurs who could potentially make an impact on the first-team next season.

Unsurprisingly, he discusses Troy Parrott, who was thrust into the spotlight as a potential starter when Harry Kane suffered his hamstring tear back in January. However, the Portuguese manager repeatedly suggested that the young striker was not ready to step up as the main replacement for the England captain, and made just two substitute appearances for the senior side after Kane’s injury.

What is former Spurs defender Sol Campbell's real first name?

Mourinho’s suspicion was perhaps confirmed when the 18-year-old missed his penalty in the FA Cup defeat against Norwich City but perhaps with a full pre-season under his belt, he could force his way into Mourinho’s plans next season. Gold shares his thoughts on the Irishman, saying:

“The Portuguese [Mourinho] claims there’s plenty more work for the young Irishman to do and that his time will come. Tottenham fans are hoping it’s sooner rather than later.

Often labelled ‘the next Robbie Keane’, Parrott is more of a number nine and we’re going to burden him with the weight of the next Harry Kane tag instead.” (per Football.London)

Do you think Troy Parrott will be given a chance next season?

TIF Tactics:

Parrott made his senior debut for the Republic of Ireland in a 3-1 friendly win against New Zealand earlier in the season and was rewarded with a new contract at the North London club in February, so looks to have a big future with the Lilywhites.

If he can get anywhere near the level Harry Kane has achieved in his time at Spurs, with the England captain having contributed 181 goals in 282 appearances, then he will surely go down as a Spurs legend, but right now it seems as if Parrott needs to focus on getting his head down and working hard to impress Mourinho.
