In his latest Q&A session with Spurs fans, Football.london journalist Alasdair Gold has suggested how the Lilywhites might look to solve their striker issue ahead of next season.

The club failed to bring in a striker to replace the injured Harry Kane during the January transfer window, with both Heung-Min Son and Steven Bergwijn featuring there before their own respective injuries.

How well can you remember these obscure Spurs players? - Who is this?

In his article (via Football.london), he suggests that: “Spurs are wary of blocking the path in front of Troy Parrott but clearly Mourinho needs more experience and in the form of a natural striker.

“Younger strikers who can fit the bill are more expensive and Tottenham will not have massive funds to work with in the next window.

“Olivier Giroud fits the bill perfectly with experience of the Premier League and he showed against Spurs at Stamford Bridge exactly what he brings to the table.

“The Harry Kane issue will always remain in that unless you’re throwing money at the situation – which Tottenham won’t – then you’re going to struggle to convince someone to come and be essentially second fiddle to Kane for periods of the season.”

Do you think Spurs will sign Giroud this summer?

TIF Tactics:

With Giroud out of contract with Chelsea at the end of the season, he could well prove to be Kane’s backup next season and he has plenty of Premier League experience, having contributed 80 goals in the top flight in spells with Arsenal and Chelsea. The 33-year-old has struggled for game time in Frank Lampard’s side so far this season, having made just nine appearances in the Premier League, but still has two goals to his name, one of which came in the 2-1 win against Spurs in February.

Considering the French international is currently valued at £6.3 million by Transfermarkt, to potentially bring him in on a free transfer could represent excellent business by the north London club. It seems from Gold’s article that an older striker is most likely and as it stands, Giroud could well find himself switching London clubs once again.
