Spurs fans on Twitter have been reacting to the reported news that the North London club would most likely miss out on European qualification should leagues fail to be completed.
According to The Times’ chief sports reporter Martyn Ziegler (via Daily Hotspur), UEFA’s executive committee has decided that if leagues are unable to be completed due to the current viral outbreak, Champions League and Europa League qualification would be decided on sporting merit – which may mean positions are determined on a points-per-game basis.
With Spurs currently sitting in eighth position in the Premier League, they would, therefore, miss out on European football entirely.
The North London club were knocked out of the Champions League by RB Leipzig and were ousted from the FA Cup by Norwich last month. Their chances of securing European football for next season relied upon their final position in the Premier League, but with the season currently suspended, it now looks as if they could miss out altogether.
If the season finished now, would Spurs deserve European football next season?
Yes

Teams won’t have this farcical decision. Lawsuits aplenty incoming.

After the season we’ve had I think this is justified I blame Levy

Levy would definitely go to court

Would not be a fair reflection if done over the 29 games played as the point per game would be based upon the easier fixture list. Fair enough if it’s done over the first 19 games as each team would of played each other once. It wouldn’t be ideal, but still a better indication.

Levy will not sit back and allow this to happen. Expect a huge legal challenge.

Cant do that surely, they would get lawsuits from everyone. Less chaotic to cancel the entire thing

These Spurs fans certainly don’t think this would be a fair way to decide who gets European football for next season.
What do we think?
If the season can’t be finished, then there will be lots of clubs who are impacted in different ways and if it is decided by points-per-game, then arguably Spurs fans can’t complain too much, as they have endured a disappointing campaign so far in the Premier League and perhaps wouldn’t have deserved a European spot.
