Spurs fans have been discussing some quotes from former midfielder Victor Wanyama after he voiced his frustrations at being left out of last season’s Champions League final against Liverpool.
The Kenyan international spoke to The Athletic about his anger on being left on the bench for the final in Madrid before admitting that: “I tried to encourage those who played. We went back to the hotel after the game. I couldn’t sleep at all.” The 28-year-old was an unused substitute for the final against Jurgen Klopp’s side so could do nothing as he watched the Lilywhites succumb to a 2-0 defeat against the Merseyside club.
The former Southampton man made 97 appearances for the north London club in his time there but a series of injuries harmed his chances of making the first team and he was limited to just one start and three substitute appearances for Spurs earlier this season. He then completed a move to MLS side Montreal Impact in March on a free transfer.
Should Wanyama have started the CL final?

I absolutely loved Victor in that 16/17 season and he was arguably the best CDM in years in that form. Was nowhere near it though by the time we reached the final and right that he didn’t start.

These Spurs fans seem to disagree with Wanyama and feel it was the right decision to leave him on the bench, especially after he was substituted at half-time in the 3-2 win against Ajax in the semi-final.
What do we think?
Unfortunately for Wanyama, injuries meant that he was never really able to rediscover his form from the 2016/17 season with Spurs and it was probably the right decision from Pochettino to leave him on the bench for the final.
