Spurs fans on Twitter have been discussing some old quotes from former manager Andre Villas-Boas.
The manager spoke to Portuguese television, as per Football.London, about his time at the North London club and his disappointment with the club’s transfer decisions. He said: “The chairman proposed a challenge to increase Tottenham’s competitive level, but immediately [Luka] Modric left and we didn’t get any of the targets I had identified such as João Moutinho, Willian, Oscar or Leandro Damião” (via The Spurs Web).
The Portuguese manager was appointed Spurs boss in July 2012, having been sacked as Chelsea manager four months prior, and he took charge of 80 matches for the North London club before his sacking in 2013. Now managing Marseille, the 42-year-old’s quotes have re-emerged on Twitter, which has attracted the attention of plenty of Spurs fans.

Levy has held us back on the field for years. It’s no secret. Let’s not forget Kane coming through was never planned to turn out like it did. We were lucky that he came through when he did.

That’s pretty a pretty damning statement right there. #levyout

Never forget or forgave this. Hired a manger with a lot of talent and promise then just screwed him over essentially

It’s what we suspected. Moutinho was the key one. AVB clearly wanted him as he was integral to his style of play. Levy didn’t deliver because once again he couldn’t get a deal over the line. Why bring in a new manager and then not support him?

Sums up levy and his support given to managers.

These Spurs fans seem to agree that Levy and the board did not back Villas-Boas in the right way during his time at the North London club.
What do we think?
Villas-Boas was in charge when Gareth Bale was sold for £85 million and the club then proceeded to spend big on the likes of Roberto Soldado, Paulinho and Vlad Chiriches, so perhaps all the blame can’t lie with Levy on this one.
