Fans of Newcastle have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays a report in the Daily Mail that claims Mike Ashley will profit from Newcastle’s proposed takeover even if the deal falls through.
According to Martin Samuel’s report in the Daily Mail, Newcastle owner Mike Ashley stands to earn a fee in the region of £17million even if the sale of Newcastle United does not go through, as the deposit paid by the Saudi Arabian consortium led by Amanda Staveley is non-refundable.
In reaction to the reports, which were relayed by NUFC 360 on Twitter, fans of the club have flocked to have their say on the matter, with many apparently worried that Ashley has a trick up his sleeve to try and rip off the consortium bidding for the club, while others have stated their belief that the news is good.
Do you think the takeover will actually go through?
Yes
No
Mike Ashley will bank £17m even if the takeover does not go through. The buyers have paid a non-refundable deposit of £17m. [Martin Samuel, Ashley’s pal] #nufc

It would be up to the premier league anyways whether it can go ahead or not anyways. Ashley can’t make any more decisions now

Surely this means he can’t cancel it now.

I doubt the Saudis will pull out now, Ashley surely won’t unless he wants to get rinsed. All down to the PL verification 🙂

Am I the only one worried by this? Ca$hlie gets £17M and keeps the club of it falls through. I am sure he has some trick up his sleeve to stop it happening

What do we think?
While it is understandable that so many Newcastle fans appear hesitant to celebrate the takeover deal just yet, the news would appear to be good for them.
According to the report in the Daily Mail, Ashley was just hours away from confirming the sale last week, only for the Saudis to insist on a delay, as Saudi business custom is to wait until full completion before making an announcement.
It would now appear that the deal is in the hands of the Premier League, and, at present, there appear to be no complications that would stop the deal.
