Some Newcastle United fans have flocked to a tweet that was recently posted by Express Sport’s official Twitter account which shares a report linking the Magpies with a move for Aston Villa playmaker and alleged Manchester United transfer target Jack Grealish.
This recent report from the Daily Express states that Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson recently claimed that the Magpies ‘should look to hijack’ any deal between Aston Villa and Manchester United for the transfer of Grealish, following some comments that the pundit recently made on Sky Sports’ ‘The Football Show’.
Merson’s recent comments come amid reports that “Saudi Prince Mohammad Bin Salman Al Saud is bankrolling a £300 million takeover which is edging closer to completion”, as reported by the Express, which go on to claim that Newcastle United “could have significant investment into the squad once their new owner completes the purchase”.
While Merson recently described Grealish as a player who would “be a massive asset for any club in the Premier League”, as per Sky Sports, some Magpies supporters have reacted negatively to the Express’ report linking them with the Aston Villa playmaker, who is currently valued at £27.45m according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

What do we think?
With seven goals and six assists, Grealish is Aston Villa’s top goalscorer and top assist provider in the Premier League this term. Furthermore, the 24-year-old playmaker’s average overall rating of 7.33 for the 2019/20 Premier League campaign also makes him Villa’s highest-rated player this term, according to WhoScored.com.
As per WhoScored, Grealish has also scored more goals and made more assists than any Newcastle player in the Premier League this season. With all of that in mind, it may be fair to say that Grealish could potentially be a good addition for the Magpies, despite fans’ opposition to this potential signing.
