A lot of Newcastle United fans have responded to a tweet from Martin Hardy.
The Times reporter has claimed that, as it stands, Newcastle do not have any plans to reverse their decision to furlough non-playing staff.
This comes after Liverpool went back on their initial decision to furlough their staff, and the Reds have now decided to ‘find alternative means‘ to the government’s job retention scheme – after the decision received backlash from the some of Liverpool’s MPs and The Spirit of Shankly group.
However, it looks like the Toon will not be following Liverpool’s lead, and this has annoyed these Newcastle fans, though some are not surprised.
Are you surprised by this?
No, exactly what I expected
Yes, thought we might follow Liverpool's lead
Newcastle do not currently have any plans to reverse their decision to place their staff on furlough leave on March 30.

I’m not surprised Martin, it is Mike Ashley we are dealing with. Such a shame.

I hope that people remember @NUFC and @SportsDirectUK when all of this is over. People are too busy at the moment, but let’s bring this to the fore when we get back to normal. It’s an absolute disgrace!

Not even slightly surprised

Hope the government don’t help the club. Absolute disgrace

Shocking, I wish Ashley would just sell up, the guy is vermin

Well duh! Don’t expect anything else from that rotten owner.

No one expects Ashley to do the right thing. Ever.

What do we think?
Mike Ashley is worth $2.4 billion (£1.95 billion), so the fact that he is seeking the government’s help to pay Newcastle’s non-playing staff could be considered greedy.
We hope that the Toon realise the error of their ways and reverse that decision like Liverpool decided to do.
However, according to Hardy, that does not look like what Newcastle are going to do.
