A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to a post from NUFC 360 relaying quotes made by PIF in the Financial Times.
The reason this has grabbed the attention of many Newcastle fans is because PIF have just bought an 8.2% stake in the cruise operator Carnival and a spokesperson for the group confirmed there would be a number of further acquisitions in the coming weeks.
This has led some Newcastle fans into speculating that it might be them.
Does this mean anything for you?
Yes, shows PIF are buying
No, has nothing to do with Newcastle
PIF have taken an 8.2% stake in cruise operator company Carnival, and a source close to PIF said we should expect to see “a number of further acquisitions in the coming weeks”. ? #nufc [Financial Times]

Let’s hope we are one of them!!! @PIF_en @NUFC let’s do this

I see this as new advertisements for when PIF take over #NUFC these stakes in companies we are seeing will no doubt have been added into the documents supplied by Amanda Staveley in her papers sent to the #Prem

Other Toon supporters, though, are not so sure and feel that this means nothing.
One of which will not be Newcastle United

Ashley isn’t a willing seller & if the Saudis had really wanted to they’d have bought it by now. It’s probably not wise to give people false hope when there’s virtually zero chance of this actually happening..

How’s that got to do with buying Newcastle?
— Kyle (@Geordiekylee) April 6, 2020
Just a matter of weeks these will be our new owners
— Patty O’dor (@mal_gordon) April 6, 2020
Ah come on….. that’s means absolutely nothing about Newcastle.

What do we think?
This statement from PIF does seem interesting, but it could also mean nothing – we are just not sure.
At the moment, in terms of the proposed takeover, all we know is that paperwork from both PIF and Newcastle has been submitted to the Premier League, and this is seen as the best possible chance of a takeover.
However, that does not mean that it will actually happen – as all of the previous attempts to buy the Toon under Mike Ashley have failed.
So, we urge Newcastle fans to be cautious in their expectations.
