Fans of Manchester City have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays a report by the Daily Mail regarding the City squad being open to the suggestion of a wage deferral.
According to the Daily Mail, City are in advanced talks with their players over deferring salaries to help the club financially during the current unexpected break from the football season.
However, the report goes on the claim that the players have asked the club that should they agree to a wage deferral, City’s owners would not then spend vast sums of money on the incoming transfer of a player over the upcoming transfer window.
In reaction to the reports, which were relayed by Man City Xtra on Twitter, fans of the club have flocked to share their opinions on the matter, with many suggesting that, regardless of the player’s wishes, the club must spend money on a new centre-back this summer.
Although the Manchester City squad were open to the suggestion of a wage deferral, the players have asked for assurances that should they assist, the club would NOT spend vast sums of money on a player in the summer.

I see my boy Otamendi and John Stones behind this ????. Otamendi had some good games when Laporte returned so my guess is he is good when Laporte plays but again we need a CB who can be good when Laporte is not available.

What do we think?
While many of the City fans believe that their club needs to sign a new centre-back this summer, their claims would appear to be well-founded.
This season, Aymeric Laporte’s multiple injuries have often resulted in Pep Guardiola fielding Fernandinho in the centre of defence, and while the midfielder has impressed in that position – averaging a WhoScored rating of 6.89 from centre-back – it is far from ideal for City to field a midfielder of Fernandinho’s quality out of his natural position.
As such, despite the players’ wishes for the club not to spend excessively this summer, it would appear that the City squad does need at least one extra player over the summer.
