Supporters of Everton have been slating Gylfi Sigurdsson after quotes from the Icelandic midfielder were relayed on social media.

In an interview with Everton’s official website, the former Swansea City man revealed that he was not sure if Carlo Ancelotti was joking when he asked him to play a new role in the Italian’s favoured 4-4-2 formation (via @TheGwladysSt), which had fans slating him.

Do you believe that Gylfi Sigurdsson is unfairly criticised by many Everton supporters?

Yes, offers more than people suggest

Yes, offers more than people suggest

No, he's really just not good enough

Over the duration of the Premier League season so far, the 30-year-old midfielder has been the Toffees’ tenth-best performer in the league with a respectable 6.68/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

However, the supposedly attacking middleman has only contributed one goal and two assists in 26 league outings (per WhoScored), leaving many frustrated.

What do we think?

While supporters are quick to criticise Sigurdsson, the midfielder, who is valued at £25.2 million (as per Transfermarkt), has still made the second-most key passes (1.8) and third-most crosses (1.3) per Premier League game on average for Everton (per WhoScored).

However, supporters seem set in their opinion that the former Tottenham Hotspur man does not offer enough creativity for Ancelotti’s side.
