It was a disappointing day for Sunderland fans last night. The side dropped all three points against Bristol Rovers, losing the match 2-0. This result also dropped the Black Cats out of a playoff spot.
The loss inspired Sunderland fan account, Roker Report, to publish their player ratings for the match. Needless to say, the ratings weren’t flattering. Only two players, Max Power and Antoine Semenyo, received ratings higher than 5/10.
Three players received 1/10 ratings. They were goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin, Alim Ozturk and Will Grigg.
Do you think Jon McLaughlin's player rating was harsh?
Yes
No
But, when Roker Report shared these ratings on Twitter, Sunderland fans were baffled. They don’t understand why McLaughlin, who is valued at £360k (as per Transfermarkt), was rated so low. They believe the side would have lost by a much higher margin if not for his contributions. Here are some of their responses.

Whoever is responsible for the comments about Maclaughlin should be embarrassed. Utterly ridiculous. For a start he saved us from defeat last Saturday and has been consistently good for us

RR bizarre vendetta against McLaughlin continues by their clueless contributors that continually gave Honeyman 7/10 each week despite him being pathetic. And managed to give Flanagan 5/10 and Power 6/10 there. Ratings about as poor as the performance.

McLaughlin is literally the only player in our team who is currently down a level

Imagine watching that and saying it was the goalie lacked fight

Sorry mind but that McLaughlin comment is actually embarrassing. He’s saved us countless times, makes one mistake with a penalty (that actually meant nothing in the context of the game) and you say that?? Get a grip

What do we think?
It is clear that these fans have a much different opinion than the fan account. Hopefully, for Sunderland fans, the side is able to quickly overcome this run of poor form and push back into a playoff spot.
