Some Sheffield Wednesday fans have recently taken to Twitter to share their view that 26-year-old Morgan Fox should be let go this summer upon the expiration of his current Owls contract.

Fox joined Sheffield Wednesday in January 2017, arriving from Charlton Athletic for a transfer fee of £738K. Having spent just over three years at the club, his current Owls contract is set to expire on the 30th of June 2020, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Fox, now valued at £900K according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, has made 102 appearances in all competitions for Wednesday, featuring for the club in each of the past four Championship seasons. According to WhoScored.com, the 26-year-old full-back has made a total of 2.1 tackles per game in the Championship this season, in addition to 1.3 interceptions per game

WhoScored have also given Fox an average overall rating of 6.81 for his 26 appearances for the club during the 2019/20 Championship campaign. This makes the former Wales U21 international Wednesday’s seventh-highest rated player this season, according to WhoScored.com.

Despite achieving a lower average overall rating than just six other Wednesday players in the Championship this season according to WhoScored, some Wednesday fans have been sharing their view that they wouldn’t like to see the full-back get his contract renewed before it expires this summer. What do we think?

Wednesday currently sit in 15th place on the Championship table. Considering that they are currently in the bottom half of the Championship table, it may be understandable why some Owls fans may want to see some fresh faces brought into their dressing room for next season.

However, considering that only six players have received a higher average overall rating than Fox this season according to WhoScored.com, there may be more pressing areas of improvement in the Wednesday squad to warrant the club’s attention in the upcoming summer transfer window more than Fox’s position. As a result, it may be sensible for the Owls to renew the 26-year-old’s contract before it expires in the summer.
