Some Sheffield Wednesday fans have been reacting to a recent tweet from ex-Owls midfielder Jose Semedo with calls for the 35-year-old to ‘come back’ to the club.

Semedo, who counts Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo “as (his) best friend”, having trained together as youth players at Sporting CP, left Sheffield Wednesday in July 2017, having spent six years at the club. According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, Semedo joined the Owls in July 2011, arriving on a free transfer from Charlton Athletic.

Semedo made a total of 167 appearances for the Owls in all competitions over his six seasons at the club. After leaving Wednesday, Semedo returned to his native Portugal where he has been playing with Vitoria Setubal for the past three seasons

The ex-Sheffield Wednesday midfielder recently posted a tweet in which he acknowledges his Sheffield Wednesday “family”. The 35-year-old’s recent post caught the attention of some Owls fans who have responded with calls for the midfielder to return to the club.

To kick off this quiz about the past week in the Championship, can you name which manager was announced as February's Championship Manager of the Month last week?

What do we think?

The 35-year-old midfielder’s current contract with Vitoria Setubal is set to run until the summer of 2021, at which point Semedo will be 36-years-old. Due to his age, it may be unlikely that we will see Semedo line out in a Sheffield Wednesday kit for a competitive game again.

However, as one Owls fan suggested in response to Semedo’s recent tweet, should the Portuguese midfielder look to move into coaching at the end of his playing career, it may be plausible that Semedo’s six years of experience as a Sheffield Wednesday player would be valued by the club to see him return in that capacity.
