Some Rangers fans have called for the club to sell captain James Tavernier ‘for £4m’, should they receive an offer of that amount for the 28-year-old right-back.
Tavernier was recently linked with a move away from the club by the Shields Gazette, who have claimed that Rangers will ask for £4 million for the defender in the summer.
The 28-year-old, who is currently valued at £5.4 million according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, originally joined Rangers from Wigan Athletic in the 2015 summer transfer window for a fee of £225,000.
The Shields Gazette claimed that Rangers wanted a fee of around £15 million for Tavernier just six months ago, however, that asking price has now reportedly dropped a considerable amount.
Tavernier has made a total of nine Premiership assists this season, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk. This means that the 28-year-old full-back has made the fourth-highest number of assists in the league this season.
Despite his impressive assists record, many Rangers fans have taken to social media to share their view that Tavernier should be sold if the club are offered £4 million for his services this summer. Read the posts from some Rangers fans calling for the right-back to be sold for that sum in the tweets below.

What do we think?
Tavernier was named Rangers captain by the club’s current manager Steven Gerrard in the summer of 2018. Despite receiving that vote of confidence from Gerrard, Tavernier appears to be thought of less highly by some of the Rangers fans in the tweets above.
Considering that the right-back has currently made the fourth-highest number of assists in the Scottish Premiership this season (according to Transfermarkt.co.uk), it may be harsh for some Rangers fans to call for the captain to be sold. There may be other areas of the squad that need to be improved upon more than the right-back position, considering Tavernier’s impressive assists record this season.
