Some Newcastle United fans have been reacting with hostility on social media to a recent tweet which was posted following the Magpies’ FA Cup clash in midweek from Daily Mail football correspondent Craig Hope.
Hope has been surrounded by controversy since getting into an altercation with Newcastle manager Steve Bruce in the post-match press conference of Tuesday’s fixture.
Bruce took exception to a recent story that had been written by Hope for the Daily Mail in his recent post-match press conference. Hope had claimed that the Newcastle manager had a “fallout” with Allan Saint-Maximin in the controversial story that recently riled up the 59-year-old Magpies manager. Bruce claimed that Hope’s recent story regarding his alleged “fallout” with Saint-Maximin was “total lies”.
Following Newcastle’s 3-2 FA Cup win over West Brom, the Daily Mail journalist made a Twitter post announcing that “free-scoring Newcastle United are into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup”, before stating that he “never thought” he’d send a tweet saying that.
Hope’s post-match tweet drew the ire of some Magpies fans following the journalist’s post-match altercation with Bruce. Read the unimpressed replies of some Newcastle fans to Hope’s recent Twitter post in the tweets below.
Free-scoring Newcastle United are into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. File that under tweets you never thought you'd send.

What do we think?
Saint-Maximin has achieved an impressive average overall rating of 7.09 from his 17 Premier League appearances this season, as per WhoScored.com. This makes him the Magpies’ highest-rated Premier League player this season.
Given Saint-Maximin’s impressive performances for Newcastle this season, in addition to Bruce’s stern reaction to Hope’s recent story, it may be understandable why some Newcastle supporters have quickly jumped to the defence of their manager and player on social media, following Bruce’s allegations that Hope’s recent story regarding the manager and Saint-Maximin was “total lies.”
