French publication Le10sport recently reported that Leicester City have made an offer for Lille centre-back Gabriel.

The Lille centre-back has allegedly garnered interest from a trio of Premier League clubs according to Le10sport’s recent report, which also states that two of Leicester’s Premier League rivals, Everton and Arsenal, have both shown interest in the player, in addition to Lille’s own fellow Ligue 1 rivals PSG.

However, the French publication’s recent reports suggest that the Foxes, as well as Everton, are a step further than the other interested parties, as those two clubs have allegedly already submitted an offer to Lille for the 22-year-old defender.

It may be fair to say that Gabriel has been a bright spark for Lille this season. The 22-year-old originally joined Lille from Brazilian club Avaí FC in January 2017, for a fee of £2.7m, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

The defender had made just 18 appearances for the club prior to the current season, however, this season Gabriel has featured more regularly for Lille, making a total of 34 appearances for Les Dogues in all competitions thus far during the 2019/20 campaign.

Gabriel has earned an average overall rating of 6.93 from his 24 Ligue 1 appearances this season according to WhoScored.com. This makes the Brazilian defender Lille’s fourth-highest rated player for the 2019/20 campaign according to WhoScored.

The 22-year-old has played an average of 3.7 long balls per game in Ligue 1 this season according to WhoScored, in addition to having made a total of 3.3 clearances per game and having won 3.5 aerials per game in the league this season

Who holds the record of having scored the quickest goal in Premier League history?

Only José Fonte has made more clearances per game for Lille than Gabriel has made for Les Dogues in Ligue 1 this season, while Victor Osimhen is the only Lille player who has won more aerials per game than the 22-year-old Brazilian defender has made in Ligue 1 this season. Meanwhile, only two Lille players have played a higher number of long balls per game than Gabriel has played on average this season.

These stats may show that Gabriel has proven himself capable of being an asset for his team in a number of different areas this season. With Wes Morgan’s contract set to expire this summer, Gabriel, who is currently valued at £19.8m by Transfermarkt.co.uk, may be a potentially attractive prospect for the Foxes heading into the 2020 summer transfer window.
