Some West Brom fans have been reacting on social media to classic footage sharing an ‘underrated’ Chris Brunt free-kick.

West Brom-focused Twitter account @Baggiesanalytic recently posted footage of a classic Brunt free-kick scored in November 2010, in their 4-1 victory over Everton. The BBC’s Aimee Lewis described Brunt’s free-kick as “sublime” in a post-match report detailing what ultimately turned out to be a comfortable Premier League win for the Baggies.

Brunt’s quality on set-pieces played a significant role in both of West Brom’s first two goals in this game. Having scored the Baggies’ second goal of the game by netting his free-kick, Brunt also assisted West Brom’s opening goal of the game, as centre-back Paul Scharner got his head onto the end of a Brunt-delivered corner to put West Brom in the lead in the 16th minute of the game.

While Brunt’s corner helped the Baggies score the opening goal of this game, his free-kick may be the highlight of this classic fixture for many West Brom fans, some of whom have recently been drooling over footage of this classic goal on social media. What do we think?

The footage of this classic free-kick goal which has recently been shared on social media may provide an example of the West Brom man’s quality. The BBC described Brunt as having been the Baggies’ “set-piece specialist” throughout his career at The Hawthorns in an article produced in March 2019. It may be fair to say that Brunt’s set-piece-taking ability has been one of the most impressive aspects of his game throughout his West Brom career.
